Seth’s Dad - finishing the race

Posted in Family News... at 1:55 pm by Hannah

As many of you may have heard, Seth’s father George Carl Jankovsky went to be with Jesus on September 3rd. He died peacefully, with his wife nearby. It was not unexpected. Four years ago he was given two weeks and instead battled with illness and infection long enough to officiate the marriages of three of his children and see two grandchildren born.

Over the last month he had been getting weaker as his liver gave out so we knew that soon he would be where he has wanted to be for a long time - with his Savior. Seth’s mother shared at the memorial service that Dad always had to live through what he was going to preach the week beforehand. She said that his last month he was so content - living out the peace that he now has eternally at Jesus feet. He pastored right up to the end, passing on what God had taught him to the people that he loved. He shared what he knew God wanted him to share - and the impact he made was huge.

The memorial service was held in Nevada, at the church he was currently pastoring at. It was truly a tesimony to hear as person after person got up to share what Dad had meant to them and how he had touched their lives. Not only did he bring glory to God in his life but he also brought glory to God in his death.

He will be missed. Dad was a unique and fun person who if you asked him for his opinion he’d give it to you straight and honest. He loved people in an incredible way and took great joy in giving them a reason to laugh (wish you could’ve heard some of the answering machine messages we used to get). What Dad wanted for every person is that they would love Jesus, obey Jesus, and have fun! And he lived his life encouraging those around him to do just that.

He leaves behind an amazing family (what can I say, I am just a little biased). Seth is the oldest of ten children. The two sisters next in line (Katie and Leah) both live here in MN with their husbands. Amy is in college in Wyoming, and the rest of the children (Caleb 17, Rueven 15, Paul 12, Isaiah 10, David 7, and Petra 5) are still at home. They plan on moving up here to MN sometime this year but for now the church is taking care of them as Mom makes plans.

Dad lived an extreme life for Jesus…and though we are sad to see him go we rejoice that he is no longer in pain and that he is where his desire has been for a long time. He lived out the verse in Phillipians "For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain." Our prayer is that we will follow his example.

    Hello cousins!
Just recieved news of George’s passing……threw me for a loop. I had the blessing of knowing him for a short while when I lived in Springdale,UT. Just being in his home (in Beryl) the love was overwhelming. I thought, if anyone was meant to have 10 kids, this family was it! I hope that the rest of the kids and Nancy are doing okay. Please give Nancy my # ,I would love to speak with her. If there is anything I can do PLEASE let me know.
    LOVE,
    Kate Jankovsky(John’s daughter)
